Istanbul
The well-known Azerbaijani poet, Doctor of
Philology, Associate Professor Tarana Turan Rahimli was awarded the medal of the prestigious international literary organization, the Turkish Literature Foundation, in Istanbul, Turkey.
The medal, established on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Turkish writer and journalist, Sheikhul Muharrir Ahmet Kabakli, was presented to the Azerbaijani poet by the great Turkish intellectual, well-known poet, and head of the Foundation, Serhat Kabakli.
Tarana Turan Rahimli expressed her great honor to be awarded this valuable award, and noted that it is particularly meaningful and significant that this medal was presented in Istanbul, on May 28 – the National Independence Day of Azerbaijan, at the Turkish Literature Foundation.
Tarana Turan Rahimli noted: “The outstanding public figure, writer, journalist Ahmet Kabakli is an intellectual who has made great contributions to the national and cultural history of Turkey. The Turkish Literature Foundation, which Ahmet Kabakli founded in 1978 together with a group of intellectuals (Meşkure Kabakli, Rıfat İzzet Çokum, Sevinç Çokum, İskender Öksüz, Emine İşınsu, Tahir Kutsi Makal, İrfan Atagün, Cahit Dodanlı and İsmail Gerçeksöz), has implemented major literary projects to this day.
On December 14, 1996, a large army of intellectuals marched with the traces of the meaningful life of Ahmet Kabaklı, who was named “Sheikhulmuharrir” at the ceremony held with the support of the Aydınlar Ocağı and 55 volunteer organizations, at the Atatürk Cultural Center.
Ahmet Kabaklı, the author of a magnificent publication such as the 5-volume “Turkish Literature”, authoritative research on Mevlana, Yunus Emre, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Necip Fazil Kısakürek, and dozens of books such as “Cultural Imperialism”, “Southern Doğu yıldın”, “Muslim Turkey”, “Dragon Stone”, and “Poet Cahan Nedim”, expressed his own unique literary and scientific attitude towards the development of Turkish literature.
In today’s Turkey, young people study in many primary, secondary and high schools named after him, and in 2011, they study in the library named after him in the Ali Emiri Efendi Cultural Center in the Fatih district of Istanbul, which contains Ahmet Kabaklı’s personal book collection and about 30 thousand books. In Elazığ, a 2812-person student dormitory for boys named after Ahmet Kabaklı, part of the Credit and Dormitory Organization, is also at the service of students and young people. As can be seen, Ahmet Kabaklı has always served the development of Turkish science, culture and education with his writings and creations during the years he lived and worked, and with the institutions, organizations, libraries and schools that bear his name after his death.
Today, in the center of Istanbul, near the great Sultan Ahmet Mosque and the magnificent Hagia Sophia, the Turkish Literature Foundation, which sheds light on the path of Turkish word art, inspires writers to new successes, values and instills value, is a magnificent work that Ahmet Kabaklı worked on together with his colleagues. Therefore, being considered worthy of a medal dedicated to the memory of the great word master Ahmet Kabaklı in this sacred place has a special spiritual value for me.”
